The year 2020 was exceptional to the State Data Protection Inspectorate as one of personal data protection supervisory authorities of Lithuania (like to any other organisations) due to the outbreak of the global coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic. After declaration of the quarantine in Lithuania in March, the Inspectorate not only had to organise its activities for remote work but also had to assist and advice public authorities and representatives of the private sector how to organise their activities by remote communication means with a view to maintaining high personal data and privacy protection standards. The pandemic which started at the beginning of the year and was still continuing raised new personal data processing challenges.
